2012 Intern Graduation Ceremony

APAPA-BAR graduated its inaugural class of 20 college interns at its First Annual San Francisco Intern Graduation Ceremony, Scholarship Fundraising & Installation Gala on Thursday, August 30, 2012.  The momentous event took place at the Hilton San Francisco – Financial District and included a VIP reception for sponsors and elected officials followed by a banquet in the Grand Ball Room for 200 guests. 

Besides working in local legislative offices and government agencies, APAPA-BAR’s college interns also actively engaged in service learning projects that included voter registration, voter outreach and education, and community development.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee applauded the work and dedication of APAPA’s interns during his keynote speech and offered advice and encouragement for the next generation of leaders who are interested in being more involved in public service.

Board of Equalization Member Betty Yee shared her experiences and stories of adversity growing up as a young Asian American and how it shaped her career and motivated her to become a leader in the community.

Andrew Ly, CEO of Sugar Bowl Bakery, received APAPA’s Civic Leadership Award and commended APAPA’s continued commitment to empower the API community.  His speech captivated the audience with entertaining anecdotes which imparted with the audience the importance of perseverance and hard work as well as the need for future leadership within the API community.

The evening also included a swearing-in ceremony of the APAPA-BAR Board Members led by Judge Roy Hashimoto.

The highlight of the night came as the Presenting Sponsors of the event, Wells Fargo, announced and presented each intern with graduation certificates and scholarship checks. 

APAPA-BAR’s First Annual San Francisco Intern Graduation Ceremony, Scholarship Fundraising & Installation Gala was a huge success and as the evening’s program came to an end, APAPA Founder and Chairman, C.C. Yin, offered the evening’s closing remarks, thanking all the event sponsors, volunteers, and guests.  He reminded everyone of the importance of fostering the leadership of the next generation and invited everyone to join APAPA’s efforts as it continues to empower the Asian and Pacific Islander American community through education, active participation, and community services.
