Sacramento, CA – APAPA congratulates the California Governor, Gavin Newsom, for helping Asian Americans break another glass ceiling in the California state government by appointing Angie Wei as his
Legislative Affairs Secretary and a key member of his Cabinet.

Angie Wei, who immigrated to the U.S. when she was one year old, represents a story of an immigrant child who rose to become one of the most powerful political names in California, making the top ten most influential Californians Capitol Weekly list for close to a decade.

“From the first day of my administration, Angie has been a trusted advisor who comes to her work with the
interest of the people of California in her heart,” stated Newsom.

The Governor’s Legislative Secretary is a key link between the Governor, legislative leaders, and legislative
members of both houses. The ability of the Governor to work closely and effectively with the Legislature on
budget, legislation, and other critical issues, including the state’s pandemic response, depends on the strength of their relationship and the link provided by the Legislative Secretary. In addition, the Legislative Secretary plays a key role in advising the Governor on all bills passed by the Legislature requiring his signature.

Wei gained recognition in the California political scene starting with the Immigrant Welfare Collaborative to becoming one of the first women to serve as the executive director of a major union, the California Labor Federation.

“Asian Americans should be proud to see this young Chinese American woman serve as a role model on how to reach the top of the ladder by her contribution of hard work and dedication in making this state and country a better place,” said C.C. Yin, APAPA Founder.
