Chapter highlights

The Oakland APAPA Chapter believes in the power of collective voices and diverse partnerships.  With the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce as a strong community partner, we organized an extremely successful Unity Against Hate Rally in the heart of Oakland downtown.  Over 1,000 supporters stood with us to fight against Asian Hate Crimes.  Our Chair, Carl Chan, recently received the “Advocacy and Courage Award” from APAPA at the 20th Year Anniversary Celebration.  He was physically assaulted and attacked from behind as he was on his way to visit another victim of hate crime.  Fortunately, the perpetrator was arrested and convicted.  It is important to share these compelling stories to ensure the most vulnerable in our community will take a stand and speak out to ensure the perpetrators of hate do not have the last word.
