Greater Sacramento Chapter

Chapter Highlights

In 2021, our chapter received the HEART Award from BAPAC and the NAACP at the Black Expo in Sacramento.  This award recognized our very active and positive partnership with the diverse community.  We were honored to build this close network of support especially this past year when we asked other organizations, including the NAACP CA statewide chapters to stand with us in the APAPA Unity Against Hate Rallies.

We also organized a really successful internship program with over a dozen college students working in the CA State Capitol through legislative placements, doing research and working on team projects.  The program also included several professional development workshops.

Our interns and board members were actively engaged in the logistical coordination for the Unity Against Hate Rally held at the CA State Capitol on May 15, 2021.  For several months, we coordinated Zoom calls with dozens of other community leaders to arrange the guest speakers, COVID compliance issues, security, policy statements, press releases, volunteer coordinators, messaging, and voters registration outreach. Over 800 attendees showed up with a lot of mainstream media coverage.

Throughout this past year, our chapter also donated thousands of PPE items to our local community.
