150th Anniversary Chinese Railroad Workers Celebration
On May 15, 2015, the 150th Year Anniversary Railroad Celebration Gala opening ceremony was held at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento. It marked the 150th anniversary of the contributions of Chinese immigrants to the building of the first transcontinental railroad. The event was a collaboration of APAPA, California Center, Shandong Film Association, and two honorary hosts, Union Pacific Railroad and State of California Railroad Museum. During the opening ceremony, the documentary film “the Silent Spike” was shown. Shandong TV Media Group production spent a decade to produce this inspiring movie. The ten minute film is a historical story about Chinese railroad workers, who used their skills and ingenuity to build fifteen tunnels extending from Nevada to Utah.
Annual API American Heritage
Month Governor’s Celebration The inaugural API American Heritage Month was held on May 20, 2009 when former Governor Schwarzenegger officially declared May as API Heritage Month in California. The celebration co-hosted by APAPA and the API Joint State Legislative Caucus, is in recognition of the cultures and contributions made by API Americans in California. Each year, more than 200 state API leaders, corporate partners, community organization leaders, and leaders from government, business, education, high-tech, medicine and science, come together for this celebration.
Golden Arches Run
APAPA partnered with McDonald’s and the Change of Pace Foundation at the Golden Arches Run on October 23, 2016 in downtown Sacramento. All proceeds benefited Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern California and Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
Family Wellness Fair
APAPA targets low income, underserved, immigrant communities and seniors who lack English language skills through events, such as the annual Family Wellness Fair. APAPA in collaboration with Sutter Health and TOFA Inc., provide multilingual health professionals to discuss preventive healthcare practices and community resources for seniors and families.
Holiday Mixers – For Business, Government and Community
APAPA holds its annual Holiday Mixer and Donation Drive at APAPA’s National Headquarters in Sacramento CA. The evening provides an opportunity to come together to celebrate the season and support needy children with donations of toys, coats and canned goods to local community charities.
On December 5, 2016, more than 200 people attended the mixer, including local officials, organization leaders from diverse communities, corporate community partners, friends, supporters and volunteers. Senator Jim Nielsen, Assemblymember Vince Fong and Elk Grove City Councilman Darren Suen were among those who took to the stage to deliver welcoming remarks and congratulate APAPA on its year end accomplishments. APAPA recognized exceptional volunteers and individuals for their dedicated service and commitment to helping the organization fulfill its mission.
Capitol Legislative Reception
Annual Capitol Legislative Reception is held in Sacramento CA in January. The event welcomes California elected state officials back in session and highlights the newly elected API legislators. On January 31, 2017, 300 people attended, including elected officials, community organization leaders, corporate community partners, friends, supporters and volunteers. CA Senators Janet Nguyen and Richard Pan and CA Assembly Members Rob Bonta, Ed Chau, Phillip Chen, David Chiu, Steven Choi, Matt Dababneh, Kansen Chu, Vince Fong, Todd Gloria, Ash Kalra, Evan Low, Al Muratsuchi, Adrin Nazarian and Phil Ting were among those recognized at the event. California constitutional officers attended, including State Treasurer John Chiang and State Controller Betty Yee.

Meet and Greet Program
The Meet and Greet Program is a friendly, informal gathering where elected officials meet with our corporate partners and community organization leaders. Participants discuss and learn about issues affecting API constituencies. In 2017, Guests of Honor included: CA Senators Patricia Bates and Jim Nielsen, CA Assembly Members Al Muratsuchi, Ash Kalra, Steven Choi, Vince Fong, and Matt Dababneh. Event Hosts included: AT&T, Bank of the West, California Beer & Beverage Distributors, California Strawberry Commission, Coca-Cola, Comcast, PG&E and Verizon.
