APAPA Media Representative Roundtable

APAPA’s Media Team brought together regional media leaders on November 25, 2025, for a luncheon and roundtable at Yue Huang Restaurant near APAPA Headquarters in Sacramento. The gathering created an open space for dialogue, partnership-building, and shared vision around civic engagement and community-focused reporting.

The meeting was opened by APAPA Executive Director Marilyn Cachola Lucey, who welcomed attendees and highlighted APAPA’s ongoing work in public affairs, community outreach, and youth leadership. She emphasized APAPA’s commitment to forming deeper, long-term partnerships with media organizations.

APAPA Founder C.C. Yin also delivered remarks, encouraging journalists to engage actively in civic life and explore ways to collaborate across platforms. He shared personal stories from his upbringing and entrepreneurial career, underscoring how civic participation shaped his journey and inspired the founding of APAPA in 2001.

Media representatives including Steven Magagnini, Editor-in-Chief of The Sacramento Observer, and Sergey Ivannikov, CEO of Russian American Media, praised APAPA’s role in empowering minority communities and expanding civic participation nationwide. Speakers also reflected on industry-wide changes — from the shift to digital media to the increasing intersection of politics and business — and the importance of adapting quickly.

During the conversation, attendees exchanged ideas on:

  • Creating structured communication channels for community news

  • Producing collaborative interviews and special features

  • Increasing multilingual media content

  • Partnering on cultural events and public-service initiatives

  • Supporting youth through mentorship and APAPA internship programs

Participants also voiced support for establishing a long-term media communication platform and suggested cultural initiatives such as APAPA Ethnic Heritage Days to foster unity across communities.

The luncheon concluded with a shared commitment to deepening collaboration, strengthening transparency, and expanding opportunities for civic engagement within the AAPI community.
