In his Nov. 14 presentation, Chapter President Nathan Tran spoke of how despite often being associated with high educational and economic success, AAPI communities in the Tri-Valley are still grappling with pressing issues such as housing insecurity, mental illness and domestic violence.
“In 2018, Asians and Pacific Islanders represented under a third of the Tri-Valley’s population,” said Tran. “Five years later, we make up over 41%. On the surface, our community is changing a lot. But our heart has not gone away. Every day, more and more leaders, from nonprofits to small businesses, step up to serve our region and keep folks from falling through the cracks. We must bring our community together so every voice, especially the ones not in the room, is truly heard.”
